Sub-Zero repair in Medfield

Medfield is a one-trip town if we get the diagnosis right on the phone, and a two-trip town if we do not — so the call before the visit does real work here.

What we ask for before driving out

  • Model and serial from the plate, usually inside the fresh-food door on the left
  • What the display is showing, including any alarm and how long it has shown it
  • Whether the freezer side is still holding while the refrigerator warms
  • Whether the drift recovers overnight or gets steadily worse
  • When it started, and whether anything changed in the house at the same time

That list is short on purpose. Those five answers rule out most of the candidate list, which means the likely part is on the van instead of on order.

The faults we bring parts for

Evaporator and condenser fan motors, defrost heaters, thermistor sets, door gaskets and hinge hardware account for a large share of what actually fails on a built-in, and all of them are stock items. Control boards and sealed-system components are not, and no honest preparation makes them so — those get quoted and ordered after the diagnosis rather than carried on spec.

Older units, and the point of no return

Some cabinets are worth a compressor and some are not. A twenty-year-old unit that needs sealed-system work and has a fan and a board beginning to go is a replacement conversation, and it is one you should have before any parts are ordered rather than after. We will give you that assessment straight on the first visit, including what a replacement of the same size and format would actually involve.

Flat $95 service call covering the visit and full diagnosis, credited against the repair once you approve it.

The valve buzzed away but nothing filled. He checked pressure at the shutoff, which was partly closed, then replaced the valve anyway because the solenoid was dragging. No trouble with it since.

Newton Centre colonial, kitchen rebuilt flush to the cabinets. Ours rattled behind the lower panel the whole summer. It was a loose condenser fan shroud, not the compressor we had been dreading.

Fan noise carried up through the floor into the bedroom above. He rebalanced the blower and fitted new isolation mounts. Quieter now than when it was new.
